The Birmingham branch of NISD, instructed by Katie Cox, was set up in 2007.

Katie Cox has been involved in Irish dance for nearly 15 years.  She is a retired championship Irish dancer, having received training from Mary Moran as a dancer for the Nashville Irish Step Dancers in her youth.  Katie is the first person in the state of Alabama to hold both the TMRF and TCRG licensures from CLRG, the Irish Dancing Commission in Dublin, Ireland .  Katie is also a graduate of UAB, holding a bachelors degree in Accounting.  Katie is proud to continue being a part of the Nashville Irish Step Dancers, now as a teacher, and looks forward to bringing many more dancers to an appreciation of Irish dance.

NISD Birmingham is also excited to be a part of the long established Nashville community.  Birmingham dancers have been growing and thriving as a part of NISD, making leaps and bounds through the teaching of Mary Moran and Katie Cox and through the hard work of the dancers.  Birmingham dancers have successfully competed at the Southern Regional Championships as soloists and on teams. They have enjoyed success in local competitions, and proudly performed throughout the state.
